2 maart - Protecting and providing education to the girl children - worthwhile human endeavour!

The birth of girl children, their growth, education and safety are still challenging issues in countries like India, the largest democracy in the world. To mention a few:

Around 8.5 lakh children are estimated to die before their first birthday each year (Census 2011 and Sample Registration System (SRS) 2013)
About 3 million girls are out of school in India and estimates show that for every 100 girls in rural India, only 1 reaches class 12
1 in every 3 child brides in the world is a girl in India (UNICEF)
Every 8 minutes, a child goes missing in India and As per a census conducted in 2011, there are 82 lakh child labourers in India

So it is evident that Girl’s education is not only for her, it is for her whole family and for the overall development of the nation. SJDT’s effort of reaching out to these children and bringing up them is certainly a worthwhile human endeavour. And we are very thankful to all those who support us in this journey.

17 oktober - Kindly read the below guidelines for the sponsor.

Dear Sponsors,

Greeting wished from Dr. I. Sebastian, Executive Director of St. Joseph Development Trust, Genguvarpatti.

Let me sincerely extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for coming forward to sponsor our children and support their education. In fact the support you provide reaches to the most needy and marginalized children. Without your support many of these children will be school dropout and malnourished and subsequently with bleak future. But now with your support we are able provide education to a member of a family who for generations were illiterates. We hope these children who receive education through your support will in turn support their own children to get education. The support you provide is not just for one child but rather education for generations to come. With this appreciation of your great generous support I also give below some guidelines regarding the sponsor relations.

Dear people read the whole article, very important.

26 september - Why orphanage care is needed for some category of children, 2016

I Am Most often asked by some why we run an orphanage in India in the present time when India is boasting to be an emerging super power with annual economic growth rate of almost 7%. Added to these economic parlance are also the criticism of some child rights activists who criticize orphanages as not best place for children to be cared for.  Leaving aside all these high sounding rhetoric I as a simple person living day and night with hundreds of children and listen to their personal stories everyday know in my heart well that these children really deserve the orphanage care we provide and but for without this care could lead to a disastrous childhood.

>Report on Salt Program Conducted by Sponsorship Department, SJDT

Introduction:
There was yet another creative and useful program conducted for senior girls by our sponsorship department, SJDT. The children who are doing their eleventh grade and above were gathered under one roof on 12.12.2015 and 13.12.2015. There were about 100 participants in this program. The program’s name is SALT (Safety measurement And Leadership skill Training). There is a great saying in Tamil and the meaning of it is “any food is as good as nothing if there is not salt”. So the department felt this name would suit for the program as it is very vital and going to be much useful in the life the children. That was a two days program and there were many programs held in those days.

By Dr. I. Sebastian M.A. MBA
Executive Director SJDT

Indians are philosophical/spiritual by nature. The Indian mentality is such he or she always follows the principles live and let live. Indians are worshippers of many gods. There are religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Islamism and myriads of other tribal religions who worship different gods. For Indian, god comes first and every task has to be started with a worship of these gods. They are spiritual in their thinking and religion forms the driving force for all spheres of live such as social, political, economic and psycho sexual aspects.
